Yamaha will stop the production of CD burners. Rumors were already that Yamaha would stop the production of their drives and is currently trying to empty their stocks by offering low prices.

The company was known for good quality drives with innovative functions. However their products were sold at pretty high prices and could not compete with cheaper drives that are currently on the market from players like LG, Lite-On and Samsung.

Yamaha stops the business with CD burners. "we concentrate in the future on Consumer Electronics and music devices", said the speaker of the Yamaha IT range, Matthias Loeffler, opposite heise on-line. It rejected speculations over a possible locking of the location Rellingen with Hamburg with its over 200 coworkers however. "the IT division for optical drive assemblies closed, concerned are 9 coworkers", got straight it.
