i'm using the platinum but when i first used them they were throttled down to 16x too, i don't know how it is now, i switched off that writespeed control and everything works fine at 24x

Sounds like you got the optimum write speed control option enabled.

With the option enabled the Yammie 2200 and 3200 checks disks compatible speeds and auto adjusts the write speed.

I usually disable it - cos it tends to be wrong most the time (but i use the 2200 1.0d). De-select the option and the burner prog should burn at the speed u select.

CD media

I have an Acer 2410 and I use TDK, Basf and Philips CD's. TDK burns at the speed its says were made for. But Basf and Philips supports more, for example Basf and Philips x12 support x16 and Philips x16 support x24 and the recording was ok..

In your last post I dont understand very well your question?
All CD-Recording software I know test your CD's first and then allows you to burn at the maximum speed it support. The only use of the burning speed selector is to choise a slowest burning speed.
