i should have waited a bit when i bought my yamaha crw3200 it did the steps towards that technology, already uses P-CAV but only until 24x and 12x RW
the front of my burner looks almost the same as the new one ...
i'd like to get an upgrade kit :D
yamaha rulz if you look at the new technology they use !

ps: never had any probs with my crw3200

I know buddy, Yamaha CRW-3200 is a perfect writer although it is out of the 40x+ competition. I had the option to get it but I prefered the cheaper and faster 40x TEAC CD-W540 which is also perfect, fast and stable. But I would really love to have the CRW-F1 at my hands right now :(... Perhaps when it become available here in Greece, I will buy it. It is a nice burner and the Disc Tatoo feature is what I mostly love at it.

and whats about the copy protections ??

this drive can´t do SD2...every cheap lity can do more!!

even a plextor is better..forget the yammi

@cdorders

ask poko ..he will tell you in the greece language :p

to be able to copy all SD2 is not the most important thing for me !
and btw it copies all SD2 except the games with the latest v2.51.021+ builds will only work in the burner itself
i never got any original SD2 game that i could back up and there will ever be an nocd crack and i'll never need a perfect backup!
i prefer a new technology that uses CAV and not the old CLV !

I would agree with you to this thing. Although the Yamaha cannot (for the time being) copy succesfully the latest SD2.xx.xxx games to play in any cd reader and assuming that I already own two nice burners (TEAC CD-W540 and Plextor PX-W2410TA), I think I can with AWS create (at least with Plex) most of the games in a succesfull backup. So, the new technology offers more (the P-CAV and not the Z-CLV speed, Disc T@2, AudioMaster, etc). The price I believe is quite reasonable as it it the only writer on the market that offers AudioMaster and Disc T@2 (Tattoo) features...
BUT as Master already said, if you want a cheaper and honest burner that can do successfully any SD2 copy, then the Liteons are the Kings of this ;) To be honest I would by this Yamaha neither for it's speed, nor for it's ability of SD2 copying. The only features that interest me more at this burner are the AudioMaster and Disc T@2. If it wasn't for these two features, I would believe that the price was not reasonable (Note that you get 2 Liteons at the price of this Yammi!!!)!

Yamaha CRW-F1,"double sheep burner"?

This burner MUST write "regular bit patterns correctly, not almost correctly" in order to beat Safedisc 2.4-2.72. I don't recommend this burner if you wan't to make 1:1 backups of Safedisc 2.4-2.72. Best drive at present for latest cd protection is the Asus 40/48x, then LiteON.

Update: I found a hardware test (CD FReaks) on this Yamaha CRW-F1. This drive CAN'T(perfect copy) beat Safedisc 2.5.021-5.72. You can make a working backup with "AWS" (near perfect copy)

Other than the Safedisc factor, this drive is bloody fast ;)

Asus 40/48x still ontop

Who cares? Many people care poko. People wan't "perfect 1:1 backups, not near perfect" (Safedisc 2.5.021-2.74). This allows you to play your backup on any DVD/CD/CDRW. I tested my Asus CRW-4012a with read speeds (CloneCD) and produced almost identical results compared to the Yamaha. Pound for pound, the Asus 40/48x is the best all in one drive on market at present ;)

sorry PePsIBoTtLe, but currently in the market there is no burner that does exact "perfect 1:1" copies. Usually there is some small change (however minute). So you will always get a near perfect copy.
There was an article and another thread posted on that before (I think in the game section here). The limit lies more in the burning software (not the hardware) I believe.
At any rate, the burner which is the best is up in the air.
Some reviews for asus don't score as high as others and it doesn't support Mount Rainier format (might be how music CDs go in future):

"The ASUS CRW-4012A has its highs and lows. While I think the drive has some potential, some of the lows keep it from being one of the top 40x writers on the market. Hopefully ASUS can tweak things like the CD read speeds and media compatibility in a future firmware update."
CDRLabs.com

It's still a very good burner though. So I would just say it is at least in the top 5 (if not top 3). All depends on your needs.

Perfect backup and near perfect backup

So my 1:1 backup of Madden NFL 2003(Safedisc 2.72) isn't a "perfect backup"?
I copied with CloneCD with no "AWS" ticked and I've played the game on 4 different drives without "Hide CD-R" ticked. My friends LiteOn 24x did the same process. These are considered "perfect backups". A near perfect backup is using CloneCD with "AWS" ticked and while playing the game (CDRW), Hide CD-R while playing the backup with a few complliant drives (LiteON LTD 163/165, Toshiba SD-M1402).

I mainly burn audio cd's and I was wondering how much the Audiomaster technology affects the soundquality.
Is it really better or are there only minor differences?

Thanks for the reply.
I'll stick with my good old Plextor 12/10/32A and spend my money on more important things :)

pokopiko,
Your in left field gazing.. If you burn Safedisc 2.4-2.72 with a 1 sheep burner, you CAN play the backup on a LiteON LTD 163/165 and Toshiba SD-M1402 DVD rom, just to name a few. I own a 2 sheep burner and sell by backups on the black market at a reasonable price (Safedisc 2.4-2.72) NOT 1 customer has come to me and said: This backup won't play in my drive(s)= "perfect copy"

P.S With a 1 sheep burner and making a backup of Safedisc 2.4-2.72, you can play some games with InseKtor 2.1 installed. The backup will play on some DVD/CD-Roms.

yes those may be considered perfect backups, but they are not perfect. It only means you can make a working copy without hide and AWS enabled, but there are still bits and bytes changed (or substituted) when they write to make it workable.

As for the Hide CDR, it only means if you have only your CDRW burner in your machine to hide it from the game it burns, otherwise no need to use it.
But that's just not my opinion, look around at the reviews for the asus CDRW and you'll see what I posted was correct (and like I said it doesn't support Mount Rainier format [which is becoming the standard]. If it can make perfect backups, then why can't it copy one of those CDs?).
Nonetheless it is a very good copier and on par with other good ones, but doesn't really out perform them in respect to being able to copy more things:
h**p://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=120&page=Performance

another insert:
"Anyway, if you are the naughty type of person who does nothing but back up CD's then you're not going to be too happy with the CRW-4012A since during this time I was not able to effectively copy my SafeDisc 2 protected NHL 2002 CD. I did not encounter such problems with other protections, however I wouldn't make a habit of it unless your real CD's are in genuine danger, such as from excessive overuse.

One other issue I did come across was concerning the reading of burnt CD's. A few times I found that such CD's could not be read by the CRW-4012A, while they were perfectly readable in other drives. If I tried at another time these CD's were readable, but this did put me off a little." - The DDRZone
h**p://www.theddrzone.com/review.asp?id=33&page=4
PS
they were able to make a working copy of the SafeDisc 2 protected NHL 2002 CD using the same software with another cdrw driver (in other review they have it).
Nonetheless you will probably get better results with other software than the ones they used but there is no perferct burner and one that burns perfectly yet (working copies YES).

This discussion is moving away from the topic though, 'cause this thread is for the yamaha and we should focus on that (which is also a fine piece of hardware).
My rule of thumb: have 2 ore more CDRW drives to make sure you cover all the bases.

pokopiko,
It's quite obvious your not up to par on the latest cd protections, and what are the best burners out there to burn them :p
Asus 40/48 or LiteON for Safedisc 2.4-2.71
Yamaha F1 or Plextor 24x& up for audio cd protection ;)

PePsIBoTtLe :D :D :D

sweet! it makes pictures in the cd! ;) I can make my perfect copies with another burner and then just use this one to make little pictures in the leftover.
