xvid problems

Hi guys.. need help desperatley.... whats the best prog to use to convert xvids to mpeg ..for burning onto dvd....
have tried fx... but no sound...tried wnmpg.. that leaves a green band at the top of the movie...read chicken mans tutorial... is it the same for xvids as divx.?
any help would be gratefully recieved..

xvid is really divx spelled backwards..... its just a HACKED version of the original divx format with a few tweaks but its basically the same

xvid is free & opened source,& supposed 2 b better than divx
