xvcd-?

OK now lets get this straight.
VCD ok ive used this one several times-
SVCD tried a couple but cant see great leaping improvements on vcd-
Now XVCD I havent even heard of this one -
Whats the lowdown on it ?
Has any one done some info on it to compare it to the other forms in quality, conversion times or if it will play on stand alones that support vcd and svcd.
If they have please post some links,or mayby start an info post on it here .

An XVCD is just an MPEG1 file with Video and Audio specs that do not meet with the ridged VCD specs. Normally it involves a higher data bitrate (typically 2500, same as SVCD, VCD is 1150), lower audio bitrate (to make a smaller file) and even VBR (Variable Bit Rate) to lower file size or increase usable dat on a fixed size CD.

As for them playing on a DVD Player, they play on less units than what VCD's do and just varies from brand to brand and model to model. Only way to find out is to make one. If it doesnt work, lower the bit rate down untill it does. They will NOT play on a dedicated standalone VCD Player though, nor the old PSX Addon units.

like ChickenMan wrote, XVCD has same features as VCD but you can use higher bitrates and higher resolution to get higher video quality.
You can XVCD burnt in "VCD"-Mode, but is not VCD standard and your DVD player must be compatible with non standart vcd formats to play it.
