XP will not recognize scanner

Is there a way to "force" XP to recognize this scanner ?

My work was clearing out older equipment, and I got hold of an
Optrox Photomaker 3E scanner.

The original installation software was missing, but they had it working on
Windows 95, and then Windows 98, until last year.

I can find drivers, but XP will not recognize this scanner, and in ADD Hardware
only a few mfr's are shown.

The light comes on, and the Photomaker program is on the screen, but then an error come up "unsupported scanner".

Any help would be appreciated.

The best that you can do is to try and use the NT drivers and take it from there. Win 98 drives will not work.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'll try those links, and the NT drivers, and let you know how I make out.

Thanks again,

dustie :D

The only solution available is the NT drivers, which may or may not work under 2000/XP... and since Optrox is a thing from the past the best thing you can do is buy a better scanner than this one for approx. 70-80 $ (maybe the scanners at that ridiculous price range are ages better than the Optrox... just avoid scanners with cheap driver support, AKA Hewlett Packards). Of course you can spend double as much and buy a REAL scanner, but I guess that not everybody is willing to do that.

Thanks for the replies.

So far, I've tried every driver for 95/98,XP,and2000, for Optrox.

No luck.

I saw that one that was suggested to run the win9x first, and then the NT, but still didn't work.

The scanner program starts, and then I get the error..."unsupported scanner", or "scanner not found".

XP will just not recognize this scanner !

So much for freebies !

I'm now pricing out scanners locally. :D

Thank you all for your help.

It's working !!!

To all the good folks who tried to help me get this scanner going:

It's up and running, and in use right now.

After long, hard and arduous searching ( I found it by accident :O ) I got the right driver.

I came across a neat little free download for Acer scanners, but can be used for others as well.

If anyone needs it, http://www.benq.com/ and its called mirascan_v3424p.exe.

You install the drivers, manually install the scanner, and off you go.

Again, thanks for all the help, I'm now a happy camper.

dustie thank for the feedback, and happy your up and running....
You just did not to dip into your pockets... good on you.. :)

You are a lucky B$%#rd! :p
Nicce seeing you finding a way out though, albeit with a third party driver. Cheers to your inspiration.

Is is a confirmed re-brand / based on, or did you just pluck drivers until you found one?
Sprinkle some of that magic search dust my way please ;)

As I said earlier, I tried every driver I could find for Optrox ( being just a little stubborn  ), and XP still would not recognize the scanner.

I was having one last go at it, and by pure dumb luck, I spotted a little blurb on google, refering to an Acer scanner which XP would not recognize, and a small program if you will, that worked, and might possibly work for other's.

I figured, why not !

I tried it, my scanner was recognized, and in about two minutes, I was using it.

Albeit it's not the original driver's for the scanner, I'll take it !!...It's working.

D. :D
