XP SHutdown Problems

I have to goto START and shut my computer down twice always. Any help? This is very annoying. Sometimes happens when software requires a reboot.

Thank you in advance,

Hit cntrl-alt-del to see what processes are running in the background when you shut down. One of them is most likely the culprit.

Can you export and attach here (use regedit export key module) the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Shutdown ?
BTW you can enable fast shutdown by hand easily:
Create a string called FastReboot (type it exactly like that!) and give it a value of 1.
There's always a danger of losing some data due to "lazy" services running, but in most cases FastShutdown works well.

Scarcrow,

First, thank you for replying.

I looked and only found:

registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \

"Shutdown" cannot be found.

I don't see it in XP. It does exist on my Me machine.

Any other advise or info appreciated.

What should I be looking for specifically?

Thank you,

You should know what programs are set to load automatically at startup. IE - your anti-virus, firewall, pop-up stopper, download manager. Whatever software you have specifically given permission to start automatically.
After you click start-shut down the 1st time hit ctrl-alt-del and look at the procsses to see which one is very high under the CPU colum. System idle should be the highest. Right click any that are really suspect and select end process. This should allow the puter to shut down correctly.

Limo driver. By chance DO U have Adaware installed? If so disable the content watch feature. That causes problems with many systems especially XP. I , and many other people I know have had the problem and disabling content watch clears the problem right up.

Re: XP Shutdown Problems

Metalhedplate,

I am using Adaware. I will give it a try. Nothing else has worked. I will let you know. Sorry for the delay in response.
