XP Pro Backup Disc

I have been trying to create a bootable backup of my original XP Pro disc using nero 6 - works fine from windows - but will not work when trying to install from cd-rom drive and booting from cd-rom - have looked around at eg. flexbeta - but this seems to be only to incorporate a service pack.

Please direct me to a guide for creating a bootable backup disc.

I came right with burning an image disk using nero but before that found a lot of interesting things
