XP Networking problem

Recently installed XP Pro. I have two computers. I can ping each one, and the router, by address number, but I cannot ping or connect using the computers name. I upgraded from Win2K where everyting was working fine. I am really frustrated and need some advice! thanks...RacerBill

Hi,Welcome to the Forum

I assume your setting up a home network? Have you used the
"Set-up a home or small office network wizard?"
Start/control Panel/Network Connections

If both computers are XP ignore the floppy disc option near the end of the wizard

Make sure that netbios is enabled for tcpip on each of the machines and disable any firewall software like zonealarm and norton internet security plus the XP's built in one.
