xp install

what is does this mean windows requires a drive with atleast 300mb to copy setup files. setup unable to locate such drive. its a 13gb hard drive with 9.43gb left. i would stick with win 2k pro but my darn network is screwed spent 2 days trying to fix it, i asked for help at dslr, newsgroups & a couple of forums, but i can't get online it keeps saying host lookup failed or cannot connect to server. my other computer connect just fine its just my 2k box & yes all my network settings are the same as my other computer so its either so evil type of os malfunction, router is fried which i doubt because my other comp would not connect or my network card it dead which i again doubt because in the taskbar it show the computer as being connected. can't ping & cant go online anyways how can i get around the error above i don't feel like fdisk or formatting though. thanks

;) ;) ;)

Give me some more details on your network setup.

try to run 'ipconfig /all' in a command prompt.

It sounds like your computer can't find a DHCP server to get a IP address from and a using a MS predefined address.

lol i thought i would not not get any response so i ended up doing fdisk, formating and now trying to install xp, yep ended up fdisk and formating... :(

anyways i just have a basic network 3 computers, hooked up via a linksys router netbui setup to handle file sharing and tcp/ip setup to handle internet stuff.

about ipconfig /all this is what i saved last time i checked

windows 2000 ip config

node type ..............Broadcast
ip routing enabled .........no
win proxy enabled . .........no

ethernet adapter linksys 100tx

dhcp enabled........... no
ip address ..........192.168.1.101
subnet mask .........255.255.255.0
default gateway........192.168.1.1
dns servers ............151.198.0.39
151.198.0.38

this is what i copied from my event viewer in windows 2000
warning 12/2/2002 2:43:37 pm Dnscahe

The DNS Client service could not contact any DNS servers for a repeated number of attempts. For the next 30 seconds the DNS Client service will not use the network to avoid further network performance problems. It will resume its normal behavior after that. If this problem persists, verify your TCP/IP configuration, specifically check that you have a preferred (and possibly an alternate) DNS server configured. If the problem continues, verify network conditions to these DNS servers or contact your network administratoring

here is one of the forums i asked for help i uploaded some pic's of my network settings there.
