XP boot up time INPUTs

Hi,

Boot up time varies from computer to computer. My cold boot up time (pre-logon and post-logon), excluding BIOS POST is ~ 24.51 sec. What's your boot up time? BTW, I used hand timing and bootvis.exe to correlate the result, hopefully the data collected is not contaminated w/ overlooked human errors.

Also, running Trace w/ Bootvis, I got the message "drive write caching disabled" under Disk I/O. What advantage/disadvantage and/or risks of having caching enabled?

I wonder if your request can bring any interesting info?

You see it depends on quite a few criteria that you did not ask for. One of the most important aspect is the hard disk specs. A 7200 RPM disk is likely to give better results than a 5400 RPM one but even then it could depend on where the partition is booted from and wether the files are badly fragmented or not. The microprocessor specs will also have an impact as it does have some jobs to do. The what about the memory available and some of the configurations of the OS and number of drivers to load and memory speed.

This is not counting if you mean when the whole OS and apps are loaded and one can really use the system. Quite a lot of programs are automatically on my stratup such as Mother Board Monitor, Lotus Smart Suite, Sygate personal firewall pro, and F-Secure and WinRescueXP and etc... Even if I see my desktop, my system is not really available for additional tasks or they respond like molass to the point where they take quite a bit of time to even load. Once those startup are loaded, my system responds normally but I use TaskInfo 2002 to advise me as to when my system becomes responsive.

I'm under the impression you will not get meaningful responses if you don't factor those considerations that affect the boot times.
