xp boot,slow finding devices

Hi, when I boot up xp is really quick, BUT when it gets to DESKTOP
it takes between 30 and 60 seconds before I'm able to do anything.I always leave My Computer C: D: windows open on shutdown. During the 30-60 secs the My Computer window has a grey, blank background, then changes to white but no devices are shown, just the Hourglass on mouseover.Then the devices appear and I have full functionality.
When I 1st installed XP this was not happening, but started after about 1 week, I used rollback to move back 5 days and the problem was gone. I re-installed my programs and all was well.
Then, 2 days ago it started again.

Maxtor 120gig udma133 Primary master
Athlon xp Barton 2500
512 mb Corsair ddr 333 cl2.0
Plextor 40x scsi cd rom
Adaptec scsi card
Ati Radeon vivo
Pioneer 114 dvd rom Sec Slave
Pioneer 104 dvd-r Sec Master
Lite on 24102b Primary slave

Kill your antivirus, and see what happens.

Cheers, but already tried that, un installed AVP but no joy.
However, I've just run XP PREFETCH CLEAN & CONTROL, set as advised (prefetch boot data only) and devices appear much quicker.I'll do a few more reboots to see how it goes.

Thanks, problem seems to be sorted with the Prefetch util, but the site will no doubt come in handy...added it to my favourites just in case.
