xls files

I want to translate a program for someone. He sent me 2 Excel files to work with, but I can't open them.
Do I need MS Excel or is it possible to use another program?
Does the MS program "mess up" the system? I only need it this one time, so I need something that can easily be removed/uninstalled afterwards (and that preferably is easy to work with).

Any suggestions?

Better get Quick View Plus 7 from fosi (h**p://sling.to/fosi) and install it. You'll be able to view not only Excel files, but almost everything right-clicking and selecting "Quick View Plus". Of course, it's very easy to uninstall, but I don't believe you'll uninstall after trying it.

Thanks guys. That's just what I was looking for.

Oh no, it's not.

"If the program used to create a file is on your computer, you can open the file for editing directly from the view window."

I have to edit the files. Do I need MS Excel to do this?
