Has anyone used the x-oom dvix2dvd software?
It purports to be able to convert an avi or divx to mpeg easily and it costs 25 quid!
No demo to check if it does though but I'll buy it if it works

Yes...... I can confirm it works alright :)

Not tested for divx to DVD i don't own a DVD burner :(

You do have to check your divx with g-spot and find out what codecs it uses and make sure you have them installed :)

I had to reinstall my 3ivx codecs to get it to work :)

im running an athalon 2.2ghz running at 1.8ghz :)

256meg of ram and windows 98se :)

I sucessfully converted a test divx of 700mb spooling from a cd in my dvd rom drive to H.D. into vcd format.. in under 40mins

My Only problem was that the resulting vcd/.dat file was to large to burn to a single vcd so i had to split the .dat file in two and make 2 vcds :)

Other than that it worked out good :)

Not figured out yet if it will make SVCD'S or not !?

Still messing about with it :)

As for quality its not bad for VCD format certainly watchable and not too bad :)

This software is NeoDVD Plus 5.0 repackaged under the X-oom name.

I've not tried it myself as I already run NeoDVD but members of another forum I frequent have reported that compared to Neo it is quite buggy for DVD author/conversion. :(

Thx Viper and Laz
For what it's worth I might give it a go - but if it's Neo dvd repackaged, maybe I can grab a demo of that and try it first.
Thx again :D

YEAH can confirm with LAZ's statement the title bar gives it away as NEO DVD althogh i never spotted that to start with :)

@ LAZ i will have to do more testing but the xvid i tested worked out pretty good :)

and for 40mins it wasent really a huge time wasted for a test :)

Good old CDRW'S :)

Well I bought the app and it's ok.
I converted a 800mb to Video_ts in about 4 hours and my pc isn't particularly fast.
The result had good resolution but was elongated as if I should have selected a setting for widescreen or something but I couldn't find such an option. It also didn't seem clear about how to make the disk once encoded because when you press the "make disk" button it appears to start the encoding process all over again so I burnt it with Nero 6. This produced an error albeit it still played fine on my standalone dvd player.
All in all its just the ratio's that need attention and I've sent their tech support a question as really the help is crap!
While I'm on -:) I had trouble encoding this same avi with mainconcept and I had to set the output to widescreen for the correct result although it played perfectly ok with media player, windvd etc - it must be me!
Cheers :D

I've used Neo a number of times to encode SVCD's to fit on a single DVDR and the results have been great every single time and it is def quicker than any other DVD author software on the market so I guess X-oom is exactly the same too.

Did a VCD with it last week to try that function but quality was not very good sadly so I will stick with TMPGEnc & VirtualDub combo for that particular type of job.

So why do you think my my format/ratios changed?
It's a shame because everything else went fine - maybe wait 'til the TS reply :)

@ laz ......... so with NEO you CAN make SVCD ?! is the quality better than x-ooms release !?

maby i need to grab hold of NEO if this is the case ?!

X-oom does what it says on the box but.....quality is far from perfect and there seems no way of changing the quality/ format to SVCD which is far better quality ?!

I tested this app,it is kind of fast for making a vcd,but chickenman tut gives a better results.also it can automaticaly cut for a cd size...still.it is fast if youre in hurry.. :)

I would prefer chickenmans method for avi2dvd but I don't have a spare 15gb of space as suggested - thats why I'm stuck with hit and miss methods which generally bear unexpected results!
Cheers
