ok i just thought you could pick up a laser like any component
and just replace their doesnt seem to be much to them really looking at it that is it was just an idea thanks for replies though
such a waste !!

Bud, i short replyed--its cheaper becouse, million things could go wrong---how you know its a laser?????You dont have a clue what`s a wrong---you just think?????You wanna fix it---go to shop---pay the guy and cry after couse you gave money for repairing 7 years old burner----or buy laser and crash it when you find its not working---still!!!!Thats my proffesion(not exactly but close) and i can tell you million things can go wrong---and yes i know how much you`re paid for---i bought 7060 once--great burner as 7040 is---still TRASH IT............................BIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for advise ill give it a try nothing to lose hope it works
save cash the drive worked good when it did so i dont have a problem with the brand or its speed although there are much better drives out now thanks again

great news i did what LTR12101B said to try and it worked
wow i wonder if its a short term fix and if that fix would work
with other brands its certainly worth a try if your gonna bin it
anyway, and it was easy to do as well thanks for the tip +++++
