Write error 11 5 with clonedvd2

Hi, hope you guys can help.

I have recently bought an HP Pavilion ZD7055 notebook with dvd writer.
I use Clonedvd2 to rip and burn, and Anydvd for region settings (Cannot find firmware update yet). Everything was fine in the beginning, but now i get more and more write errors.

When Clonedvd is preparing to burn after the creating of dvd files, it says "setting up...erasing" in the process area. Is that normal? After that, 7 out of 10 times it says "aborting" and I get an error message "dvdwrite error 11 5". The error message only shows in the beginning of the writing process, so IF it starts writing, it's fine!

Cleaned the lens, did new software install and still have same problem. Did have nasty virus though, but thats all sorted out. (I hope). I have tried to find the error message on the Elaborate Bytes website but no luck. I have a feeling it's a problem with the writer itself, but hope it's not!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Steven, have to check for version number clonedvd, and not sure about writer brand and model, as it doesn't really say in the device manager. Will get back to you on that. (In office now so can't tell you).
May have found a solution though..... I have both clonedvd + nero (full version with all plugins) and someone told me that they may cause problems as they both run in the background. Ever heard of that?
Also, I have been using the same dvd+r from the start. Think i did about 80 dvd's with no problems, and now those give me a headache... I have tried another brand from a friend yesterday (Sony dvd+r) and that works fine! But cannot understand why the ones i normally use give problems when they were perfect in the beginning (think the brand is highspeed dvd+r) You guys are always mentioning ricoh dvd's in the forum, so may switch to those.
Will keep you updated.

Thanks for now...

You seem replying to someone else, so I won't bother following this thread anymore... good luck, anyway. I don't think you'll find any working solution with that attitude, but you cannot know- Devil's legs are short...

Right.....

Ok wiseguy....... Yes indeed... who the f...k is Steven Biko... And he still lived when i was born. But ok, my mistake :(
But no need for accusing me of a wrong attitide... Just a guy that needs a little help, and you could have answered my question. Not gonna waste my time posting in your forum when i am not looking for an answer. But hey, we're not all perfect it seems, so lets stop the blaming and see if we can help each other.

But checked a couple of things for you. First of all, I am using Clonedvd2 version 2.0.4.1. The writer is internal in my laptop, and in in my device manager it's listed as a HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N, which is as far as internet sites tell me an LG or an Hitachi. Not sure. Also cannot find a firmware updte for this.
Funny thing is, that i have been using he same dvd's from the beginning, and they seem to be horrible now. So how can that be? I am using some sony dvd's now, and o far so good. Aso uninstalled Nero full version on request from the sales guy where i bought it... But after that still erros with the old discs.

Hope you can help.

Thanks SCARECROW!

There are more fools in the world than there are people.
Heinrich Heine (1797 - 1856)

Your drive is both Hitachi and Lucky Goldstar- these two companies have merged their optical drive businesses quite some time ago.
A bad thing about this drive is that it's reported to be very picky over DVD media, and another bad thing is that the company releases firmware upgrades very rarely- in fact none up to date for that drive.
Media that are reported to work OK with that drive (not by me of course, I don't own it...) are Verbatim (branded Taiyo Yuden), Fujifilm and TDK. It is also reported that the burner achieves a high percentage of bad burns when writing at 4X, so you'd better limit it to 2X for DVD-R or 2.4X for DVD+R. In any case youy should verify your burns, since the media problem does seem to exist till a better firmware is issued.
Updating your CloneDVD to the latest version (2.0.8.4) should also help a little bit, 2.0.4.1 is the initial, immature release of CloneDVD 2- it even had problems setting the correct writing speed with quite a few drives.

PS: Steven Biko was the 1975 world champion at Snooker... I think.

Ok thanks,

Will try latest clonedvd. But if I understand you correctly, the firmware is actually produced by the manufacturer? Thought it may be some sort of a crack...... I have been reading some other forums that speak about the writer I have (it only burns +R by the way) and there seem to be a few problems with them. So will wait for firmware upfdate as well....

Will keep you updated!

Oh and any idea how it is possible that the discs I was using in the beginning don't work anymore? Quite a strange one.....

PS: No idea who Heinrich Heine is...........But he died a long time ago....
