Workaround for Fat32 Problem?

I tried to copy a DVD-Movie to a DVD-R. After striping out all of the unnecessary stuff the files were still to big (5.57 GB).

Then I used ReMPEG2 to lower the bitrate to 73% but unfortunately the result will be one single M2V-file which exceeds the 4 GB-limit.

I tried to workaround this problem by proccessing every single vob. As a result I created 6 single m2v-files which each contained the content of one of the 6 vob-files (Each file had now the size of approximately 700 MB).

Then I used the ReMPEG2 MPEG-2 Video Stream Exchange Tool to exchange the original vob-file with the content of the m2v-file. I did this with all of the 6 files.

The result was a set of 6 vob files which all (except the last one) had a size of 780 MB. After that I used Ifoedit to create some new Ifos and the I played the movie with Power-DVD.

The movie then plays but there is a problem with the chapters. They are no longer in the same place and I can only choose 7 instead of 9 chapters.

Does anybody have a clue what I can do about it? Maybe there is a way to set the chapter-marks manually? I already thought of installing a NTSF-OS but Windows 2000/XP will not work with many of my favourite games ;) and there is also to little space on my harddrive for a second partition.

1. If u aren´t playing DOS games WIN2k will be ok for playing ... ;)

2. Rempeg2 suxx (I know that it is the only prog which works with Ifo edit but sometimes u get really weird results)
... u should use Cinemacraft Encoder ...

Pros: U get better quality @ better speed @ less space usage

3. In the tutorial section is everything u need to know about creating your DVD movie ;)

Does Cinema Craft Encoder also process vob-files?

I am searching for a software which encodes vob-files and then creates new vobs (now with a lower bitrate but in 1 GB portions; Like on a original DVD). Then I would just have to create new Ifos end then burn the movie.

Does such a software exist?

hmm...CCE doesn´t support that ....
1. dvd2avi
2. vfapi converter
3.cce
4.Scenarist (authoring software) --> add chapters...demultiplexes...creates vobs + ifos --> on the mainpage ;)

You idea makes sense but isn't there a significant loss of picture quality if I convert the vobs into avi?

Is it possible to use Quickbuilder instead of Scenarist? I think that Scenarist will not work on Windows 98.

hmm... u don´t really convert them into AVI ...it´s only required to pretend it for CCE or Tmpeg... cause it can´t handle VOBs

btw. I transcoded Password Swordfish and resized it to 2GB incl 1x AC3 (5.1 channel) ;) without loss of quality ... just used 4 pass mode in CCE ....

every authoring software does the job ... but I haven´t used others than Scenarist .. ;)
Ulead DVD MovieFactory is also a possibility ...

Thanks for your advice. So I have to open the vobs with DVD2avi and then choose "save avi". The software then asks me if I want to compress the movie. Which setting would you recommend?

DVD2Avi now produces an avi and a wav file. I will try to process them with CCE as soon as it is finished.

Which version of CCE should I use? There is a lite, a Sp and a Pro version. Which one should I use?

hmm...goto the DVDBURNING Section (Tutorials) there are guides on DVD2AVI --> VFAPICONVERTER --> CCE --> Scenarist
use them in this order ;)

I hope there is everything u have to know ..

CCE .. I use 2.64 sp... but many sugguest ver 2.5 cause there r no major differences ...but 2.5 is fully cracked ...

If u get 2.64 PRO please share it ... I never saw it ... (btw. very expansive) :p
