WordPerfect Office 11 - A brief encomium

I just received and installed my discounted OEM copy of WP Office 11. The short of it is that the program is cleanly designed, reasonably sized (269 megs on my Win2K system after full install), and evidently stable. It seems to open and re-save Word docs and even save as .doc effortlessly, for any of you who worry what you'd do with your .wpd files if you had to send them to Office users.

I've never been a fan of MS Office (with its malevolent paper-clip, bizarre auto-tabbing and bulleting features, and etc.). Open Office seems to be a very high-quality replacement, but, I aver, there's something polished and imposingly material about this newest version of the Corel standby. If you check pricewatch, you'll find numerous OEM versions available from $20-$25 from discount software outlets.

This release is shaping-up to be the best since WP Office 9. Given the Corel Corporation is on the financial ropes, it might also be the last.

Not a fan of MSOffice either, but IMHO WP 11 suite is not half as good as OpenOffice.org 1.1.
If you want a database manager as well you may have to consider Staroffice, but all the rest are there for free, incuding unique stuff like importing and exporting .pdf without any Acrobat components installed, REALLY advanced scripting via embedded Python modules, and presentation export to Flash without the need knowing what Macromedia is...
