Wireless network to share broadband

I have two desktop pcs, both of which have network ports.

I have broadband through BT Internet and want to be able to use either pc to access the internet.

At the moment I'm using a USB modem on the main pc and plugging it into the second pc when needed.

I've had a look on ebuyer for the type of kit I'll need and so far found:

Belkin ADSL Modem with Built-in 802.11g Wireless Router
+ 2 x Belkin 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter

Am I on the right lines? I want to be able to get online from either pc irrespective of whether the other is switched on.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction

Any wireless Router will do ask you ask.

Personally I use a D-Link 604+, 2 of my machines are cabled into it, and the third uses a wireless connection.

I've no experience of the Belkin model, but I would buy the same make of router and wireless card.

without wireless and cheaper alternative would be to be use internet connection sharing using the lan cards/connections you already have and 10/100 crossover cable with xp its easy to setup just use the wizard its far cheaper than a wireless network but tends to be a pain if the machines are a great distance apart you need a longer cable :)

I always tell people to use a wired router. I'll just say this you may want to look in to health risks do to being exposed to higher frequence for long periods of time. I know they proved it with cell phones I'm just wait to see the head lines 10 or 20 years from now.:eek:
Just something to thing about.

Have 1 pc at my home on a wireless setup the other is hardwired to the wireless router only problem I have had so far is occassionally the wireless pc loses its connection  just when I need to use it.

Broadband slow?

Why will the second machine be slow?

I (stupid?) thought that the speed of the wireless network would be faster than my broadband connection?

It's not SLOW

2 months on, broadband modem / wireless router all up and running (Belkin kit).

Wireless card on PC downstairs works like a dream.

Speed currently showing as 54.0 Mbps, signal strength excellent/very good.

No problems with speed, marginally slower than the office pc but not so much that you'd realy notice.

I can load CD images (stored upstairs) into a virtual CD drive on the downstairs pc and run apps/games as though the CD were in a local drive.

Got to say I'm impressed....

Only one small gripe, need to re-connect after I hibernate the wireless pc - 1 right-click I can live with!!
