WinOnCD 6 PE for free

The news courtesy of CD Freaks- thanks for it.

WinOnCD 6 PE is now offered by the german department of Roxio (formerly known as Cequadrat) for free!
It has also happened with WOCD PE 5, two years and a half ago.
Get the program here:
http://www.roxio.de/adban/download/winoncd6/winoncd6pe.exe
And here you can register for free (you don't really have to know german to fill the form):
http://www.winoncd.de/woc6registration/index.php
Future program updates using your personal key from here:
http://www.roxio.de/upgrade-center

Good spotting!

The "Upgrade Center" page seems to be about trading up to something else - the support page is

http://www.roxio.com/en/support/de/software_updates.jhtml (German)
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/uk/winoncd/software_updates_wocd.jhtml (English)
DirectCD "updates" tend to be full versions, locked to work with the associated product, so the associated DirectCD update could be used - but NOT if you have the packet writing suport for any other program installed - in the same vein, WinOnCD can also be a "bad neighbour" to other programs, though maybe not quite as bad as the well known Prassi (Recordnow & others using same core) to Nero 6 conflict.

In fact, unless planning to use packet writing of any kind (which tends to combine a format that is more sensitive to corruption with media of questionable reliability), then it's best not to install ANY packet writing software, as this generally helps considerably with multi-software compatibilty.

Service Pack 6.03 adds extra drive support, and apparently includes the current Unidrv pack.

There used to be a Roxio support board for WinOnCD, but that has since been discontinued - I seem to recall that compatibility with WinXP SP2 was a little strained, though maybe 6.03 helps that.

To re-iterate, if you're happy with your writing solution as it is, "just trying" other programs is not a great idea, at least set a restore point, and preferably a rather more solid form of backup, as cases of various writing software having adverse interactions are all too common.

well im quite happy with nero6.6..
Still too bad that i cannot get recordnowmax4.50 to works with xp-sp2 as it is the best burning software ever made

Prassi ONES is very close to the RecordNow philosophy, does not have the main limitation of RecordNow (poor support for new burners- any MMC-3 compatible burner works with it right out of the box...), it's intuitive, as lighweight as it gets, extremely system-friendly, and despite a few rough edges (e.g. lack of support for bootableCD builds) a superb and lowcost application... I also use Burrrn! (audio CD's), Burnatonce (audio, data CD, data and video DVD) and (of course) K3B which does everything- but 1. manipulating EAC cuesheets, and 2. Working for the average Joe (it's a KDE/Linux application).
I'm sorry, but I simply cannot stand Nero- it's simply awuful...

Out of topic, but my PX-716A works fine with RNM 4.50 and WinXP+SP2...

I tryed prassi ones before but cant remember what but something didnt work??
So i installed again few weeks ago couse i bought a new burner-nec3540a and its working excelent unlike nero which got some problems with it??cant understand why though as i do like nero and would not try to look for another app if everything was ok :(
Anyway just for record;ONES is excelent simple burning beast :)
Also nec3540a is the best drive i ever had as i burns all those certified 4 to 8 or 12 x speed,no bad burn sofar and i must had a betven 100-120 disks burned as i was bussy making dvds for a friends.I dont know about games but it rox for audio extraction with eac also which is the most important i guess-i dont know about other audio rippers as i dont use nothing except eac for ripping but probably is good too :)
Both totally recomended :) :) :)
