windows xp wont let me set up a dial up connection

i recently repaired my windows xp using the boot cd and everything was ok until i tried to create my dial up connection...

i went to Network Connections and clicked on 'Create a new connection' and selected 'set up my connection manually' and i found that 'connect using a dial up modem' was shaded out, so i cant create my dial up account...

does anyone know how to fix this problem?

thanks in advance

I have a soloution

Hi mate i had exactly the same problem.
It has something to do with a service being disabled. I found a soloution unfortunatley i have lost it. if you send me an email to andypa1@supanet.com or just post your adress in here i will find the soloution and mail or post to you.
Okay Andy

Little tip if U are posting Ur email addy, dont post it as myname@isp.com as this makes it easy for bots that automatically search sites for addys, try typing it like this myname < at > isp dot com :)This will save U from a shedload of spam mails :)

Try this:

-------------------------Error and Fix from others: --------------------------
I am trying to set up a dial up network place on windows xp pro, I try to set the connection up manually but but the option for anything but a
permanent broadband connection is greyed out in the wizard.
I have investigated this and found that "remote access connection manager" needs to be started.
When I try to start it I get an error 711.
I then have investigated the 711 error which tells me that I need to reinstall windows xp sp1, thing is it is not installed.
I have tried reinstalling win xp pro but get an error message about intel(r)82?? usb2 hardware device has software which is not windows logon
compatible or something like that.
I researched this and found out that it is a usb2 host controller.
I have also removed any hijacking type thingies using something called spybot.
All in all I cannot connect to the internetusing my modem, which according to windows is woeking okay. It was all working okay when I was using
XP Home.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've had the exact same problem just recently and it's frustrating as hell. Whilst I havent seen if the follwoing solutions work (I'm busy with
other problems at the moment), they look promising :

The other address to look at seems far more directly relevant and is as follows :
