Windows Xp System Restore

Problems: When I try to run system restore it informs me that it cannot find a specific dll file (framedyn.dll) consequently it does not start. Is it possible to re install system restore or repair it in some way without a complete re install of windows xp. I do not really want to lose all the programs / files etc on my pc.

Set your BIOS to boot from CD.

Put Win XP disc in drive and boot.

Select repair option and sit back while XP does the rest. All your old files/settings will be as they were. ;)

The best and easyest solution is using windows systemfile check. A full repair is not needed. Open the comandpromt and type: sfc/scannow
You will need your windows CD.

And to keep from looking for your boot cd everytime this happens, it is a good idea to add the command console boot to your hard drive once you are back up and running. Just boot into 2000/XP and open a cmd window. Insert your CD, go to the i386 directory and type winnt32 /cmdcons -- this will install the recovery console to your boot drive and add a menu item in your boot.ini to pick from on startup. This can be used to fix multiple boot images on your system as well.
