Ok, I know that nobody here uses VMWare 3.0 or 3.1 except me of course...... Therefor this is a FYI to be squirrelled away for a rainy day.
However, I have managed to get XP SP-1 to NOT work on a VMWare 3.1 or 3.1 Workstation system.
It works fine with XP without SP-1 installed but as soon as SP-1 is put on, the VMware host process dies with a bug report and exits.
The bottom line is, don't even bother testing generated keys/patches etc with this combination. It simply is broken.
I suspect VMWare will issue a fix some time after SP-1 goes on general release.
