Windows XP Pro - Desktop Items Gone, but apparently they are stilll there??????

Can anyone help, i am using windows xp professional and all of my desktop icons seem to have gone missing and the computer still says they are there (My Computer etc & all my shortcuts wont come up?)

Right click on the desktop, select properties. Go to the desktop tab, hit the Customize button. Put tick marks back in. Click OK.

There is more than one reason/solution for this one... as you can see. So if you please, what happened just prior to this? When did they stop working?

Have you tried this?. Right click on the desktop, On 'Arrange Icons By' , cursor down to 'Show Desktop Icons'
