Windows XP Pro: Corporate or Retail?

Hi,

I have access to a computer at work that recently had been updated: Windows XP Pro! Wouhou! hehe :)

But the problem is... The guys didn't installed SP1... Why? I tough to myself... was it a Corporate version using a illegal key?? Not in my business... please :)

So I downloaded ViewKeyXP.exe to see the cd-key of this computer... it's: FCKGW-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Hum... look's like DevilOwn's, don't you think?

I want to be sure before making any "accusation" (I just want my company to use legit software, we're not talking about personnal use...), I want to be sure that it's really Windows XP Pro Retail and not Corporate.

Is there a way to check this???
Is there any difference between some Coporate (DevilsOwn) files and Retail ones?

How can I be sure, with only the concearned computer in front of me (and not srewing it... hehe)?

Also... Does the file attached gives other cd-key to you guys or is just a fake and tell everybody they are using the FCKWG one?

Tanx guys I appreciate!!!

Hi big_gie:)

That key is a hacked corporite version

Even if they did try 2 install SP1, it would fail at the Verifing Key bit

Plus i think MS has locked out any 1 using that key from windowsupdate

I had the corporate version & it has the same key as Ur's

Hope it Helps

Don<t worry I won<t report them to the riaa or whatever... hey guys, its my job! hehe :)

I just don<t want them to get caught or anything and then pay a big bill just for something this stupid....

Anyway, thanx for the fast response!

The computer guy came to change this:
He came to change de Windows version to an OEM one... it WAS the corporate!! heeh i knew it :)

He said it was because when he installed the OS, he only had <his> cd... (well the corporate one with devils own key... hehe) and didnt had access to our legit cd... We needed the computer, he installed corp so we could use it untill he could fix it...

Hey... why are those guys so dummy? I think they are more useless for the company as everything they do I could do and faster...

anyway thanx guys!

If he's your companys computer TECH then he should NOT be installing ILLEGAL PIRATE software on your companys systems under any circumstances as he is putting the company at risk from the big wigs at MICROSUCK!!, he should know better!!

I certainly would not like to take on the MIGHTY BILL GATES billionaires legal department :(

I think he was just making excuses that all he had was the DEVIL'S OWN to hand he should not even be using that in companys systems!! !?

IT Suspect

Yes, and how many other firms large all small has he shafted like this.?? Charged them full price and not changed the OS to a legit copy??

Unfortunetly it does seem 2 happen a lot:(

I would report the guy as he has most probebly done this many times & also some small computer co's do it as well

One of me pals bought a system & guess what was on it...Yep u got it right, the corporate version. No backup disc or restore disc & they still charged him for it

Apparently they done it all the time, untill they got a visit from Micros**te legal team(yep me ratted on them)

But only cause i felt sorry 4 all the folk that had bought a PC from them, only 2 find out they couldn't install the SP:(

Those tech guys seems really lazy...

Since 2 month ago, they are trying to give access to all (~20) computers of the company (right now we have only one computer connected... pretty archaic don't you think? :) ) O my god! what a hard job!!! setting a proxy on EACH computer... Why does'nt microcrap create a corporate version of proxy so it won't need activation or configuration? (gasp...:p)

Bunch of loosers...

Anyway, the corp version was installed because the tech guy didn't had access to our windows xp cd... What? How can it be possible?? (**looser**, oups sorry...:)

After I left the job half an hour ago he was going to reinstall the OEM version on top of the corp to change everything... (**LOOSER**, damit I can't help... hehe :) )

I don't care if everybody downloads xp corp at home (i sure did...:p) but i won't accept this company doing so.

Anyhow, tanx guys.

By the way, is there a way to check if XP Pro is corp, OEM or retail? Without checking the cd-key?

Not that I condone piracy or whatever. I have tried XP before I bought it though. What I don't understand is why people keep using the same product key. Even if it is devils own or whichever. Some devil own's had a kegen to generate a key. Ya I was curious if it would work for sp1 and sp2RC1 and a generated product Key bypasses the blacklist. The time it takes to generate a key. I don't see why they or whomever keeps using the same key that is blacklisted. Now the techies that are getting money off installing xp and saying it is a legit copy should be ratted. When I said about a keygen. I am not trying to give old techies that pirate idea's. but. it only takes about 30 - 50 attempts for a working product key. But techies that are doing this to buisnesses should be ratted. they are scum. Hell. they probably sell out anyone they knew for a few extra bux.

Cheers.

Now, a year later, I can remember how long they've waited before installing the good one: it took 3 months. haha! They should pay me, even half the tech's pay, for doing this loosy job... :) They just installed it over I don't know how much old present's OS. I'm sure it was Win98, then Win2k, then two or three times XP... The computer booted in 15 minutes because of all the crap their was in their...

Anyway, I don't work their since september and I really don't care if their computer system just crashes :D

hehe. oh my it has been a year. I see it happen alot here though. These techies that sopposedly know more then the average user. but then in the long run. hehe. we all seem to know mroe then the techies. I wonder how many corporates do this. After reading your post. I really wonder here in canada how it is like that. lol

Its a shame they paid to have some courses and they still don't know a thing :D
I should be paid for what I know! (well I onced was, now I'm doing something more in my domain (physics))

I don't know how much companies do this, but I think its useless. If they don't want to pay, ok fine no problem, but they are FREE alternatives!!! Don't tell me its too complicated to use, they are already over paying stupid guys doing stupid things on stupid OS!!! :D

Maybe a fully formed Linux admin is less cheap than a windows one, but linux is free by itself and way more powerfull for everything. You can even run Windows apps inside it! My boss told me, last summer, that they was using Outlook and Windows because thats what everybody use at home so it will be simpler for them... This is ridiculous! People don't know Outlook?!? People click the "Reply" button, whatever color, shape, area, language, the button is!!! And all mail clients have reply buttons :) All email clients do the same things!

A well installed and configured linux box is as easy to use for normal people than a windows one. The complicated things is to install it and setting it, but its not the business people who install the OS so they don't have to know a thing...

anyway :)
