windows xp install

helloo.i would like to know if there is a way to install the windows xp from dos by running the executable file setup.exe.i don't want to install it from booting. When i used the bootable disk from windows98 with cd support and tried to run the setup.exe from the cd i got the message that this cannot be executed under dos.
don't ask me why i don't want to use the bootable sequence from cd (in this way it works perfectly).

In other words i want to find a way to run the setup.exe under dos .

 If you know how to enter your BIOS. Set your bootup option for your drives on your system so that CDRom is setup as a bootable device. Make sure the cdrom drive is set as first drive to check. Have the windows xp cd in drive and boot up system. Should work, I have done it this way. Jimbo

 Yeb!! U need Windows XP boot CD. Windows XP is 32 bit application can't install on dos (16 bit environment) but U can install on windows 9x/ME/2000. Isn't it?

Pre format your hard drive. Go to i386 dir on CD and run winnt32.exe. You can change formats on the fly from fat32 to NTFS - one way only though.:)

Use win 98/me boot disk to install xp. No need to create 6 disks as microsoft says. They can be downloaded from: h**p://www.bootdisk.com/. After you have created the bootdisk get hold of smartdrv.exe and copy this to the bootdisk.

Boot from the disk and at the commmand prompt type "smartdrv". This will speed up the install. The rest is as Billy_G stated. However, you must run winnt.exe not winnt32.exe (this is a windows file) and setup should begin.

Hi, 332. You'll find that Winnt32.exe starts the install process as well but in 32 bit mode. MS advocate the 32 version in the MCSE stuff. Different means to the same end.
