Microsoft is eying small business, with the hopes that they are willing to "do more with less." Small Business Server 2003, the newest member to join the Windows Server 2003 family of products, earned its shrink wrap on Thursday and officially hit the market.

Small businesses can choose between Standard or Premium editions of the title's 4th generation, depending on the needs of their IT infrastructure.
The Standard Edition box contains Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, while SBS Premium Edition throws in Microsoft SQL Server 2000, as well as Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA Server) 2000.

Selling points are a complete business server solution with messaging and collaboration, security-enhanced Internet access, protected data storage, reliable printing, the ability to run line-of-business applications, and faxing. Microsoft claims that new administrative features help IT administrators deploy, run, and manage their networks productively and efficiently.

"Small-business customers tell us that for technology to effectively address their business challenges, they need solutions that are simple, familiar, economical and comprehensive," said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. "Windows Small Business Server 2003 enables small-business customers to optimize their business computing and really unlock the value of information."

Pricing for Small Business Server 2003 is set at $599 USD for Standard with five client licenses, and $1,499 USD for Premium Edition, also with five clients. More information on where to purchase the new server is available on Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 Web site.
