Windows Commander 5 Unpacked

Anybody know where I can download the unpacked version of Win Commander 5? Or at least the unpacked wincmd32.exe file?

By the way, I seem to have a legitimate key file for the program which means no need to apply a crack for each new version of the program. If anybody is interested, I'll upload it here.

Thanks Rastabt for the link. Unfortunately, that version also contains the packed version of wincmd32.exe. The unpacked version of the executable is about twice the size (1.4 Meg versus 600k).

I will try the program Pokopiko (thanks Pokopiko, by the way) suggested to try to unpack it. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to keep looking.........or register the program as last resort.

Windows commander

:) :D

Softname Windows Commander 5.01 Beta1 Incl Working Key
Platform Win 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP
File Size 1291KB

I downloaded the above program and it is already unpacked inside the zip file that is downloaded.

If you extract all 8 files to do with Windows Commander that comes to a total of 1.31mb in size.

Tkey file key file is 1kb in size.

I am not sure what you are looking for............

:) :D

Hi Big Al,

You are right that the zip file contains an unpacked version of Windows Commander 5 but it is the unpacked "installation" program. I am looking for the unpacked version of the actual executable of the program itself. i.e. wincmd32.exe.

If you look in INSTALL.CAB of the file you downloaded, you will see that the wincmd32.exe file contained inside it is about 642k. That is the packed version of the executable. The unpacked version of the executable is about twice the size.

I'll quote from the Windows Commander FAQ from Ghisler's site and maybe that will clarify things more:

----------------------------
Q: After upgrading from Windows Commander 4.0 to 4.5, the start of Windows Commander takes one minute instead of 1 second! What can I do?
A: This problem is probably caused by your virus scanner. Wincmd32.exe is packed with the EXE packer ASPack. Certain virus scanners seem to observe the startup of each program in single step mode, which is of course terribly slow. Solution: Exclude wincmd32.exe from the scan operation - Windows Commander contains a built-in virus protection. We also offer (by e-mail) an unpacked version of Windows Commander to registered users if you cannot disable the scan of wincmd32.exe in your company.
-----------------------------

Unfortunately my current virus scanner does not allow me to exclude a specific file so I experience the time delay in starting the program. That's why I'm looking for the unpacked executable.

Thanks for taking the time to download that file and look at it, not to mention replying to my post.
