windows = bullshit

ya know the more I read the more I get absolutely disgusted with all this xp and sp1 shit.....I am currently pondering moving completely to linux where the trouble is the same but nothing is illegal.......about the only thing to steal for linux is staroffice (linux's version of ms office but there is a free replacement called open office), kylix (a c compiler and development tool from borland I think) and a few games from a company called loki that went out of buisness...but just about everything you can think of has a free version and linux now supports 3d fairly well......and you can use wine for all of your windows games on linux and play just about anything ya want.....

oh well thanks for reading my useless dribble and ramblings

I THINK i will take a time out here and ask you before a mod gets here for you to edit your language in this post as some readers may find it offensive thanks in advance !:)

yes windows sucks but please try respect our forums bad language policy :)

wine sucks. I haven't even managed to get IE working on linux. It starts, but then crashes. and now I am forced to use Opera when I am in linux.
besides, it doesn't work if you are logged in as root (or maybe the latest version supports root user? haven't updated for a while).
and the trouble is not the same on linux, compared to win. linux is very user unfriendly, as opposed to windows.
and linux is expensive. as a student I could get the suse pro distro for the price of the home edition, but I don't have the money. so what the hell do I care what windows or linux cost? I can't afford either of them. the full version of star office costs money too, opera for linux costs money etc. etc.

there are some free linux o/s's available for download....cant say they r any good or not as i have never tried linux... but it may be worthwhile lookin at it..... search google for free linux and u'll find a few of em

@ ☼Johnny not many people who havent got broadband or hi speed internet will fancy downloading a 600 meg image file on 56k at a measily 5k a second download speed its just not worth the hassle unfortunatly :( there are smaller cut down versions out there but anything worth while will be a cd's worth of stuff ! :)

if you live in the uk, you can buy mags which has distros? (think its called that) on them such a linux format? or pcplus... or you can go online to purchase the distros for 2 pounds or so...I try and dig up the url later ;)

I have mandrake, pokopiko, but it's not the full version (I downloaded the free version). you have to pay to get the full version (with the full version of star office etc.)

I can't stand Mozilla, I used to use Konqueror, but switched to opera on linux. Galeon and Mozilla are really bad browsers, and Opera is not much better.
Open office is neither comfortable, nor does it look nice, nor does it work well with MS office documents.

As I said in an earlier post...

Why bother loosing time to install Linux if all what I need is some games, DivX 3.11 and DivX 5.02 for encoding, plus a good office suite? Why bother trying to find tools to emulate Windows on Linux to run Windows apps? Windows 2000/XP are really good OSes for that, more user firendly than Linux for now.

Linux is good for sure, but it's better for some usages (like a dedicated server for a game, or a mailserver,...), not for the average home usage at this time. Let's wait for it to evolves. And I'm sure it will evolves with bugs like Windows, maybe not as many (who knows?), but the more user friendly it will be, the higher the risks of bugs are. Up to you to use it since its' good too, but stop saying that MS is sh.. or whatever.

And I agree with php, we get limited versions on the CDs. For the full ones, you need to pay.

I agree. These free Linux downloads sure do get expensive. ;)

The main problem is that Linux isn't readily available to the puter newbie. People aren't aware of other O/S choices until they are exposed (In more ways than one) to Windows and learn how to use a search engine. It is like teaching an old man to use the other hand to sign checks.

I remember back before I had cable or dsl (dsl was first then I got cable) and I had 56k I would set up my downloads at night when I went to sleep and used something like getright and I would download a shat load of stuff by the time I got up went to work and came home I could play with all my new downloads before doing it all over again....so yes it can be EASILY done on a 56k....it comes down to how bad ya want that iso or ccd file :)
