Windows 98SE

I want to register a new name for Win98SE ( Instead of my Own) on a machine that my young neice is having, but I have forgotten how to do it.

Any help is much appreciated

Some other software will either ignore that, or react badly (become unlicenced) - that key looks to be juist the computer name though

Searching... (blast that forum timeout... I'll lose my place AGAIN)

A step by step guide - many other examples there too.

The "swiss army knife" tool - X-Setup can prbably do it, but, just like registry editing, it's a loaded gun in the hands of the unwary.

You have been warned! - this is a dangerous as Regedit!

Forgive me if I'm offering a solution to the wrong problem (or to a non-problem):

For Win98, computer name and identification is set within network properties. Select network from within control panel > click the tab for computer identification (I think it's the middle one) > rename computer name > reboot.

At least, I think that's all right. Anyhoo, it's safer than fiddling with the registry.
