Win XP Pro [SWE] bootup error

after a couple of previous bootup errors i now have a huuuge error.
shortly after bios is loaded, an error message appears:

"\system32\drivers\pci.sys is either missing or corrupt. try repairing
the file with the installation cd" etc

i have tried both to repair with this cd and also with MS six boot up disks.
none of them works. the install procedure halts halfway.
ie i can't boot via the cd or the disks...

suggestion/s anyone?

o&o bluecon and winternal adm pak must be installed
on an xp machine which i don't have...

anyone knows if ERD Commander exists as a boot floppy?

Try to reinstall /repair XP from your CD. Do like this:
Just boot from the cd as you originally did.
Let the install begin
You will be prompted to installl or repair.
Choose install here!

Let the process continue, Accept the licensing agreement.

It will scan for previous versions of Xp and will give you the option of repairing or reinstalling.Choose repair at this point!!!

It will go through the whole install process.After you are done it will be repaired with all of your software that was installed,as well as your files.

It sounds like ur having a problem similar to the one i had with windows XP, the only diffrence is i had a diffrent file corrupted. None of the options as far as a repair would work, what i did and was the only way i could find to work was load windows XP onto a partition on the same drive and when i booted chose the newer install, afterwards i copied the files i had that i needed and saved them to the working windows partition. afterwards iformat the original windows partition and with system commander reload another more reliable O/S problem solved, i still use XP but am not reliant on it as i have lost any trust i had in this O/S. i now save all my files to a partition without an O/S on it so if i crash an O/S i dont lose anything

i have partitioned and formatted my drives now. don't think
i will reinstall xp again...
