Win Xp / MSI / Raid Controller

I am running win xp pro.
Motherboard msi kt3 ultra

I have recently formatted and reinstalled winxp pro.
Since i have done this my pc pauses quite regular but only for about a split secound when it happens. I have traced this down to being the raid contoller. If i disable raid in the bios the problem goes away. I have downloaded the latest up to date raid controller from msi and updated but the problem persists. A freind has told me that i should have pressed F6 when installing xp and installed my raid driver then is this true ? He tells me the only way this will stop is if i reformat again and do what he said does any one have a view on this please ?

You can install the RAID OEM drivers anytime... via control panel/system/hardware/device manager. Find your adapter there, and reinstall its driver using the OEM diskette.
During XP installation you have to press F6 only if the installation script does not recognize the host adapter at all, and so the installation is stopping/aborting.

The F6 option is needed only if the os is going to be placed in the raid array and if the raid is not included in the XP drivers database.

Check the settings for the block size in your array, maybe you have set some size that is not working well also in windows disable indexing service for your array disk.

In a more radical point of view you also could try by updating you raid bios, if the raid is integrated in the mobo then update the mobo bios also.

You should also check your device manager in safe mode.
It may be possible that winxp took his own driver for the raid controller at installation time, which was replaced later by the manufacurers generic driver that you've installed.
The original ms driver may still be present in the background and interferes with the generic driver.
This behavour of MS operating systems is a reason for installing third party drivers at install time using the F6 key even the OS is not meant to be installed into the disk array.
