I'm having some problems with Norton Antivirus, I downloaded many version on morpheus (2002 final ecc...), I can install correctly but I can't get it to work due to a script error.
Same on my 2nd pc which runs win 2000
Ev'ryone tells me Nav works perfectly

1- How to get it work?

2- I have win xp pro 2600 with corporate files (+ Hotfix pre sp1) is this really the final version ?

Thankxxxx

Yes, both my friend and I have had this same script error
problem. It happens during the install after registration.

I tried uninstall and cleaning the registry, but nothing worked.
Although I am using the same proggies as you (not sure what
+ Hotfix pre sp1 is though), my friend was using his retail XP
and beta NAV 2002 from this site.

I discovered a solution though, but you are not going to like it.
1) Do a clean XP reinstall (I know, this sucks).
2) do all critical windows updates from Windows Update website
3) then install NortonAV 2002, do all the updates, then disable
on startup so you can then install all your other proggies
(you don't have to disable NAV, just makes installs easier).
4) then you can tweak (with XP-Antispy, highly reccommended)
and enable NAV on startup.

This solution worked for both of us.

just a cautionary note.be careful of using registry cleaners eg system mechanic etc because it removes certain registry strings of norton av.

Thanks a lot guys !

I tried to install Nav just 'cause some people told me it rocks on XP...I was running win 2000 and Mcafee 5.x before and never had troubles, now I have upgraded to win xp and tried Mcafee 6.01 (which sucks), then f-secure 5.xx but this sucks too on this old system (slow down)...So, is this bad luck?

Just need a fucking AV that works fine on a p2 300, 128 ram running XP !!! I don't want an AV on the pc I work with, my athlon
must be fast fast fast !

Hi bud.I'm currently testing a free antivirus from w*w.grisoft.com
so far it seems quite good. Not a resource hog, fast scanning, free updates, etc.Best part is it's totally free,it's called AVG.I'm using Xp pro.:)

Hey lore...

...do you have a Sound Blaster Live? I've been reading
that the drivers that come with the Live have a nasty
memory leak, that causes all sorts of problems including
installations hanging (as I recall this is what happened
to me). There is a driver fix at Soundblaster.com.

Not sure this is your problem or if you have a SBLive,
but fixing the Live is a possibility.

My Norton AV seems to work much better now. I thank
pokopiko for his advice on F-Secure AV (yes, it looks good)
But I'm not ready to spend another $60 on AV for XP (unless
anyone knows a crack for F-Secure AV 5.3 full version). ;)

Another vote for F-Secure, the serial that was posted is the same as I have and it works fine.

I have also tried AVG and it works great under XP. Very light on resources plus it has a decent email scanner. Pity it's test results are not a bit better.

Another easy to use program which does not seem to impact on performance too much is F-Prot 3.11 which is readily available form the usual altnernative suppliers.

I have also tried NAV 2002 under Windows XP and did not experience any problems though it does slow things down. The only problems I ever had with NAV was under W2K when after cleaning the registry the on demand scanner ceased to work and refused to fix itself even after restoring the registry entries.
