wierd problem

i bought a Memorex ThirtyTwoMAXX cd-writer, which, naturally, should burn at 32x...but it doesnt..heh..it doesnt even _show_ it can burn in 32x...it says 10x sometimes, and after fiddling with the IDE cables, and changing to ATA100, i got 12x...there are no firmware upgrades that i can see, and ive tried Easy CD Creator (which it was bundled with), and Nero...

Hoping for some tips/hints/solutions!

you may find that you have to use 32x blanks to get it up to full speed of burning some burners will simply not allow max speed burn on cheap or slower rated blank cdrs ! try to get some certified speed blanks and try those !:D

burning speeds

Your problem may not be with your burner at all, but may be due to the fact that a lot of recording media being sold today does not yet support a speed of 32.
Look at the disks you are using and check the max. write speed, lots of them are not capable of burning faster than 16X still, and some are much slower. (something to check for when you see them on sale) they may be getting rid of old (slow) stock.

Thanx Viper, your right! must have been at the same time. good to know that people are stillb willing to help lol

well

well, the problem starts before i even insert the media...it just finds out that 16x is max speed for the cd-writer...im using cd-r's that support 40x, so it shouldnt be a problem...

Also one other thing to try,if your copying "on the fly" it is a good diea to seperate your rom/dvd drive from your burner, try connecting them to different ide leads, i done this because my liteon wouldnt burn at 24x on the fly, since i changed the leads over i have no problems at all.

I had the same problem with my Plexy 2410a write speeds. I later found out it was the cd-r media I was using. Switched to TDK and I'm smokin' BTW, I read on the ClonyXXL 2002 FAQ that the Memorex 24 MAXX can cut the latest Safedisc 2,51.051. I'm curious if the Memorex 32 MAXX can do? Games with Safedisc 2.51.021 are: Medal Of Honor, C&C Renegade, Serious Sam:Second Edition. If you can grab a copy of one of these titles, try and burn and play in your cd-rom. If your using WinMe make sure to enable DMA and sync data transfer. WinXP, enable DMA mode.
