Why?? Can only burn VCDS Can't burn SVCDS

I've been dealing with this annoying problem for the past few days and am now at the point where I can't figure this out myself. I have converted ACI files to MPEG-1(VCD) to burn a VCD which works great. I wasn't happy with the quality, so I decided to convert the ACI to an MPEG-2(SVCD) so I can make an SCVD. The program I use for the converting is TMPGEnc. They both convert fine to the MPEG's. The problem is when I burn the MPEG-1 to VCD's they burn fine... but when I try to burn the MPEG-2 to SVCD's one of 2 things happen. 1) I get a write error and can not burn the CD-RW OR 2) It says it completes fine but it does not play in the DVD player. I have two new DVD players... One of my DVD players detects it but just plays a black screen and the other DVD player doesn't even detect the SVCD. They both play VCDS fine. I originally used Nero for burning the CD-RW but have also tried VCD Easy and some others. Anyone have any clue why this would happen?

are you 100% sure that your dvd players can playback SVCD ????!?!? some can, some cannot and some can only play VCD not SVCD ! :( .....

even really expensive DVD players can fall foul of not being able to play ALL formats of disk :(

can you tell us the make and models of both your DVD players so we can check for you :)

Do the SVCD's play fine on the PC using WinDVD or PowerDVD ? If so then the problem is either media or actual DVD player.
