Frameserving from dvdx to TMPGEnc will give the best results from dvdx but are still not as good as going from dvd2avi to Tmpgenc. But if you want subtitles, dvdx to Tmpgenc is one way to do it. DVDx own internal encoder is not very good and should be left for testing, mucking around only.

I have never been able to make any quality VCD's by frameserving from dvd2avi to cce, however, I have been playing with the latest dvd2svcd ver 1.09 build 2 as it now has a convert to VCD option. The end results have been quite good indead, so far I have found:

DVD2SVCD 1.09 b2 with cce sp 2.50 to VCD:

1. Gives perfect a/v sync
2. Equal or fractionally more artifacts than with TMPGEnc
3. Pic is sharper than with TMPGenc
4. Audio is a lot more "fuller" than with dvd2avi/tmpgenc method
5. Encoding time is dramatically reduced (a 50min movie took 2hr5min encoding time with dvd2svcd & Tmpgenc but only 48min with dvd2svcd & cce)
6. A lot of mucking around to go into Batch mode using dvd2svcd (has to be set up maunually)
7. No cutting or cropping of pic with dvd2svcd
8. DVD2scvd tends to screw up Aspect ratio if input is an AVI (DivX) resulting in a flattened pic.
9. Even though turned off, the resultant VCD from cce has VBR flag turned on which is not a VCD specification. From Tmpgenc, its CBR but VBV buffer is somewhat high at 32 rather than normal 20.

I'm sure there are other pro's and con's but those are my first findings and looks very promising.

I have no idea where to get cce lite other than their home page. Vidomie is used to make AVI (DivX) and has nothing to do with MPEG1 or 2
