which is best

which one of these cards is best for ut2004 far cry?is there a big difference?

geforce fx5600 256mb 8x

asus ati radeon 9800xt/tvd 256mb 8x

There are about a billion reviews of these cards already (look at hardocp.com, pick a review and read the inevitable comparisons).

The general consensus seems to be that the nvidia product has more raw fillrate but the ati 9800 gives better more accurate details the moment you turn-on anti-aliasing and eye candy.

You can't seriously compare a Geforce FX5600 (mid-range) and an ATI Radeon 9800XT (top end).
Are you sure you didn't mean a 9600XT ?

Best advice though, is don't consider upgrading NOW - there are a rash of new cards in the wings, to deliver the power required by Doom3 and HL2 - that will inevitably result in price/performance repositioning throughout the range, with the likelihood of better prices on those dislodged from the current top of the range.

A 9800xt is certainly a potent beast, but at the moment, I doubt that it's good value - unless the imminent arrival of the new "top of the range" is already anticipated in the prices.

Cheapest I could find a 9800XT for, was £249 PLUS VAT, when the 9800Pro can be found for £100 less.

In a couple of tests, the only thing that gets between them is the Geforce FX5950 Ultra (and on the second test, also the 5900 Ultra).

Unless your supply situation is different, the price difference between the XT and the Pro is way too large for the gain in performance. The 9800XT is the current top ranked card, and carries an unjustified price premium which is likely to drop when it's no longer the top of the range.

On the other hand, you can revel in being at the top - FOR NOW!

is there anything else with my spec that need upgrading?
What about your power supply unit? A good 400watt will do you but if you have the money look at something rated 450 watts upwards...brand name at that.
Since you play games many of the newer games need direct x9 so you may have to install this at some point.Oh yeah your cooling system AMD run hotter then Intel chips so you may also want to look at ways to keep your system running cooler...
