which graphics card do you recommend ...

if you won't spend more money i think the GFORCE FX 5700 256 MB DDR is the best choice;

the ATI RADEON 9600 PRO is comparable with GFORCE FX 5600, so the GFORCE FX 5700 should be a step forward; but wait for other peoples opinions;

Well, the 9600Pro is a faster version of the 9600, so unless it's significantly cheaper, I'd rule the non-pro out immediately.

The good old Tom's hardware grouptest
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-03.html#unreal_tournament_2003 9600Pro above FX5700, 9600 some way below it
But is this repeated throughout?

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-06.html - FX5700 ahead of both

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-08.html - FX5700 loses out to both, ATI takes the high ground altogether in this test

Gave up counting, I's say the tests give the 9600Pro a slight edge on the FX5700 - they trade places occasionally.

Unless the 9600 non-pro is significantly cheaper, or you're into softmod and overclocks (not sure if it will) then skip that one...

One caveat - some "9600 Pro" are wrongly described, and are "Pro-EZ" - Pro speed on the core, standard speed on the RAM.

Also have in mind that for non-MS OS'es the Radeon solutions are out of the question, as their drivers suck- while Nvidia has released exhellent drivers for both MACOSX and *nix environments.
