Which Dvd Rom

I agree totally with Bertieg.

I think your caps lock is stuck bro.You are SHOUTING at us,hope you're not mad at us .;)

LiteOn drives look very nice. I like my Sony DDU1621 but I had to region free patch it (you might not want to do that). Have no problems reading anything & speed keeps up with my CDRW drive.
Many like Pioneer drives also. I would look around for many reviews & see what are the pluses & minuses. (but I think LiteOn will give you a good bang for your buck). Just stay away from LG lol & ooooooooooh I hate Asus lol (but that's just me).

I've heard that pioneer DVD drives are over achievers in the DVD market. If you have the money, I would recommend the Pioneer 106s drive which is the slot load. They look nice too. I have a 2x Creative labs dvd drive and it is acting up so I bought a slightly used 5X on ebay for $9 and with any luck, it will work. My speakers for my computer emptied my wallet.:D , so I gotta go cheap on the DVD.

How do the latest Toshibas rate..ie the 16X???

I have a Toshiba 1402 and it is very good....it is close to 2 years old.

Also as far as reading various copy protections( for burning)...are there any DVDs that are better than others??

Price is not important as Pioneer, LiteOn and Toshiba 16X are all within $20 of each other in price.

Is there any advantage to slot-load??? Seems that it is more likely to suck in more dust with slot-load??

I've read a review or 2 somewhere ( Cant remember ) but don't know for sure, but they are supposed to be Excellent drives as far as their access time reading CDR and CDR-W media. That's about all I know . I haven't heard any negative comments about Toshiba.

As far as slot load, their is really no advantage other than what you see. They are not more prone to dust as they have the felt that seals the drive. When the CD is inserted, it spreads the felt just enough for the CD enter the drive. Just like a CD Player for a car stereo.

I would think that the slot load may even last longer. I say this becuase the tray load systems tend to wear and get sloppy after extended use which may slightly alter the placement of the disk in the drive. As a result, this slight altercation could cause interference between the capability of the laser reading the CD. Of course, this is my own theory and others may disagree. I owned a 4x burner and after extended use, it started to act up a bit so I bought a 12x. Ive owned my 12x drive for 6 months now and have used the heck out of it and so far, there are no signs of wear and tear.
