Which DVD-Rom Drive ???

the best one is definitely toshiba (preferably scsi). I am using tosh 1401. region crack should be available on /http://www.firmware.fr.st/.

Hey php, I got the tosh 1401 too! Yes, it's been a great investment -- region free means it'll play those good cheap dvds I bring back from North America. A fine drive.

I was looking at the Pioneers but they apparently have a jumper that -- if it's not set correctly from the start -- locks its region for good.

By the by, once you've gone scsi, you'll never go back. ;)

The best bar none m8. ;)

Check out w*w.cdspeed2000.com for more info/test results on this. It has pretty much the best DAE of any drive there is. The only downside is copy protected audio, which it sadly is not a lot of cop at. :(

LiteON LTD 163/165. My Toshiba SD-M1502 justs extracts DVD's a bit too slow (2x) on a Athlon 950. LiteON LTD 163/165 will also play backups of Safedisc 2.5.xxx if backed up with LiteON or Asus.
Toshiba SD-M1401 will as well, but hard to find....

But Lite-On 165H is not RPC-1, I have to search and search... for a firmware hack and now my 164H from RPC-2 become RPC-1... I am happy and almost sweat!!
