which dv9 to dvd5 software to use?

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a LG GSA802b DVD writer & am right now looking for a good software to backup my dvds to dvd-rs. I only want to do the main movie with all the audio tracks + subs, no menus or specials. My goal is to achieve the best possible quality, speed comes 2nd. That's why I did some research on available programs & I would like to know which of these or others you would recommend to use.

DVD X Copy Platinum 4.038
InstantCopy 8.0
CloneDVD 2.435
DVD2One 1.51
DVD Shrink 3.2015
Nero Recode 2

Thankx for your replies,

I read that recode2 and dvdshrink are basically the same, is that true? On the website of the creator of recode (ahead) there is a comparison of different programs in terms of quality & speed and they claim that their program is the best of them. Well, I know I would be a fool to believe this but maybe anyone of you can confirm the good results?

i would say a true test would be to test them yourself and see first hand what results you get SPEED isn't everything when it comes to quality :)

Recode and DVDshrink are "almost" the same- DVDshrink is always one click newer, AND freeware. They are close to being the best transcoders out there, you can only get better results by Instant Copy (which is very slow and has problems regarding the exact filesize), or an encoding solution, which uses a good encoder (CCE or Canopus) instead of a transcoder.

Try DvdShrink first (since it's free). If you're happy with the results (in terms of time and quality) then you're set. If not, then you'll probably need to use a commercial solution requiring re-encoding to get an increase in quality (though at the cost of a significant increase in time).

dvd shrink is your best bet, however there are other programs, not as good in my view, but one's such as dvd2one,intervideo, or try clonedvd by elby which is on par with shrink
