My brother is looking for a computer. He only needs it for his work, internet, occasionally burning cd's. Nothing that requires a "big machine". Something like pentium 3 and 20Gb should be enough. What brand would be a good choice for a simple, cheap and reliable pc? And are there any that should be avoided?

HP (Hewlard Packard) or Compaq
HP (Hewlard Packard) at your local Wal Mart
If you can find a Compaq for the same price, then go with Compaq because the cases are larger and easier to do upgrading (memory, processor, hd)

Wait till MEDION are doing comps again in ALDI fab deals at fab prices. Thats where I got my P4 2Ghz. 80gig, GeF4 460MX for £699. (Without monitor, but I got a Medion 17" for £99 too) and I have had probs yes, but sorted out very quickly. Cant praise them enough.
By the way - after I checked around for what I thought may be the makers of the monitor, and I reckon it was an Iiyama.
