which codec is used?

i have got an .mp3 file, but it should be an video. i´m not able to play it. is there a way to find out which codec is used? many thanks for an answer

An .mp3 file cannot be video.
Consult the site where you downloaded it (since if you got it from P2P or something analogous, we don't support unauthorized downloads).

IF your associations are set by something like winamp then it could be an MP4 you can play these with a freeware mp4 player found by searching google

mp4 videos when wrongly associated can look like mp3 files

Just load the file into latest Beta version of GSpot, it will tell you what it is, be it audio, video or both.
