Which burning app?? DVD format

Thanks for reading...not sure which sections to put this one in but here goes anyway.

I've got a copy of Nero Express and that works just fine for making Vcd or Svcd disks which play in my stand alone DVD player. I have a program that makes the relevant file, either Vcd standard or Svcd standard and from that i use Nero Express to make the actual disk. These are not movies but slideshows. What I'm wanting to do is, as I can make DVD standard movie file, find a burning app that also gives me the choice to burn a DVD disk. When I say DVD disk, I won't be burning a blank DVD-r but a blank CD-r. I would figure my DVD player can deal with a DVD movie even though it ain't on a DVD disk but a CD-r disk.
Would the latest version of nero do this. I already have the Mpeg2 DVD plugin but on nero express it only gives the options for Vcd or Svcd. Does the latest version of nero have a DVD option and if so will it let me burn to a blank CD-r (instead of a blank DVD-r)??

Thanks for any feedback..

U Cannot burn a DVD (AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders) to a CDR unless U turn it into a VCD or SVCD!!!
Arr... not quite true m8. You can burn DVD compliant files in a VIDEO_TS folder to a CDR. The end result is what is called a miniDVD and you find a handfull only of DVD Players that can play them. CDROMS on aPC can play them no probs though. I made a few myself while praticing my AVI to DVDR tutorial before I got my DVD Burner.

Nero can burn them out fine, not in Wizard mode though. Just burn as a UDF/ISO mode but drop a CDR in instead. Even RNM can do it also. Jus make sure the file size does not exceed the CDR capacity though.

I Stand Corrected:eek:

But I went by this part of the post

I would figure my DVD player can deal with a DVD movie even though it ain't on a DVD disk but a CD-r disk.
Not many DVD movies are small enough to fit on a CDR

Not a problem, DREEMTHEEF has made an incorrect assumption about his DVD Player, thats all.

Your right, not many movies in DVD format can fit to a CDR but many movie Trailer and addons can. I have the cartoons "The Birds" that came on the Ice Age dvd, and "Mikes New Car" from the Monsters Inc dvd both on the 1 CDR complete with menu and all in true DVD format. Plays well on the PC but not on my DVD Player. :(

Nice feedback guys

Thanks for the feedback from the pair of you. The ever knowledgable CM replied too, I am honored :D

The files I was talking about are made from a slideshow prog' so they are not huge files, maybe about 10 mins long at max' but I just thought if I could get the extra quality of DVD format, that it would improve things.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

In theory yes you can get the extra quality (assuming it was there in the aVI in the first place). Another option is to try XSVCD then, but it all depend on how high a bitrate you can go that YOUR particular DVD Player can handle. You just need to make a few and try them out. "Suc it and see" as they say.

EazyVCD is very easy for XSVCD's ( www.eazyvcd.tk )
