Where's My Memory?

Hiya
Just received a new PC and checking everything's working ok, I noticed in system properties my memory is displayed as 480mb RAM, yet I have 2x256 modules installed, that of course is 512 total. So where did the other 32mb's go? Is this normal?
I do have 128mb graphics (on board), could some of the physical memory be used by the graphics?

Thanx

If only 32Mb has gone, then the onboard graphics is only set to 32Mb - don't you just love this marketing hype!

Mind you, 128Mb would be wasted on most onboards!

Let me take a wild guess, it's from Time or Tiny (aka the computer shop) and it has "Geforce 4" graphics.

Nearly right......Mesh.

Not bad... with dual-DDR, the onboard Graphics is probably between a Geforce 4 MX420 and MX440 - reasonably competent DirectX7 hardware (just don't try 3DMark 2003 or you'll be VERY disappointed).
Have a laugh at my 3Dmark 2003 score - I barely managed to scrape above 100 - the scale is a LOT different to 3DMark 2001 though!

It should be worth a mid-range score on 3DMark 2001 though.

Fact is, Nvidia abused people's trust by giving a "Geforce 4" tag to what is really only a slightly improved Geforce 2.

PS. You can use DirectX9 with it, and the drivers are DX9 capable, but the hardware cannot do DX8 features like pixel shaders. I critcise it, but to be honest, the only drawback would be for recent games.
