What will be in the next version?

I created a backup of just the main movie and menu. Getting rid of the extras was simple and quick. Processing took about 45 minutes and I was surprised it took so long. I realize that is an IfoEdit issue and it's not a big deal.

The main menu for this disc consists of two menu items. After processing I realized I forgot one of the menu items. So I had to rip the disc again. When I started processing I got an error message and Stripper crashed. I assume this is because I forgot to clear out the folders. So now I have to rip this disc again.

I'm thinking I'll wait until a version comes out that doesn't require ripping again under these circunmstances. I'm wondering if that might be the next version.

Hi Michelle

I'm sure the current version doesn't need reripping as you use the UNDO feature after it's finishded. This will restore the DVD to the state it was before processing and this can be used for Disc splitting

45 minutes is also a long time, have you used an Ifoedit.INI file and put it in your Windows directory. Where on the screen is the Ifoedit progress bar located, in the middle or down the bottom?

your right about it crashing due to the old folders having files in them. It's always best to start with fresh empty folders

the new version has a new approach to Ifoedit and also has folder checking options along with a few more fixes and tweaks ;)

I'll post as soon as it's available :)

@MackemX........ heres an idea to add to a future version ...... an empty/flush folders button possibly with a reminder POPUP/prompt when you have completed a process :)

I don't use the program as yet but ... i have a few good ideas for many things based on what people give you feed back with ;)

the flushing folders is already implemented at startup in 0.1.1. I'm not so sure on deleting files after processing as people may need them again if the DVD ain't what they want or burning the DVD fails :)

at the minute the UNDO feature is basically forced upon the user after processing has finished and again I stress it's best people use the UNDO. You can always delete the files during startup or manually afterwards or even just use new target folders, deleting the old folders completely. You must also remember that programs such as Norton Protection still keep these files and waste drive space even though they are deleted from normal view (get's me all the time). So you must empty your protected bin once in a while or you may run out of hard drive space which has happened to some already :(

I'm sure we could have an option to delete all files in the folders in the options setting if people are 100% sure they are finished with files after burning the DVD

cheers

p.s. DOH!!!!!!!!!!, I left this on preview for last 50 minutes lol :D
cheers and keep the suggestions coming if you have more ideas

I'm sure this has been asked for already, but how about the feature to start from files already ripped to the hard drive as well as ripping from the dvd.

I realized that I needed to do it over after I had exited Stripper. So the UNDO feature couldn't help me there.

I just bought a new monitor and need to use a different Ifoedit.INI.

I'm going to wait for the next version before I dive in again.

it's not possible at the minute and I'm not sure if it ever will be

it should work if you rip the DVD in ISO mode and mount it after but ripping in filemode sadly is a NO NO at the minute :(

How long does the ifoedit process usually take? And where should the progress bar be? At the bottom? I'm finding the process takes quite some time and my progress bar is at the bottom. Thanks for the handy program. Even though I can use ifoedit, it still saves me plenty of time. Looking forward to the updates.

Hi and welcome to the DVDRBASE forums :)

can you still see the actual blue processing bar or just the percentage?

do you have 2 physical Hard Drives?

if you have 2 Harddrives, make sure your TEMP & BACKUP folder are on the same drive and the DESTINATION is on another HD

if you only have one, then it's reading and writing to the same Hard Drive so it all depends on the speed your PC can do this an maybe this is why it's taking 45 minutes

it takes me anywhere from 10-15 minutes for processing but I have 2 x 7200rpm drives

@MackemX sorry to butt into your thread again bud .... but things to take into account re speed here :)

a) PROCESSOR ...what processor do you all use in your system ?!

b) How much RAM/memory does your system have !?

2 very important factors to how FAST Anything is done/processed :)

For me to process a file will take forever .....for someone with money to throw into a good processor and RAM/memory they will get the job done in minutes :)

this is not including the above mentioned HD speed :)

:)

no worries, butt away :)

the processing part regarding Ifoedit is actually more just copying files than actual processing so the HD's will affect it greatly

it's basically just copying the files into another folder but I agree CPU and MEMORY will also affect things :)

When I was using the wrong IFO I could see the blue bar and it was slow. When I replaced the IFO I couldn't no longer see the bar, just the percentage and it was much faster. I'm puzzled about how the visibility of this bar affects processing time.

It's similar to the benefit you get by turning off Video Preview in InstantCopy and DVDShrink or hiding/minimizing any application that has a progress bar. Your computer is wasting precious resources by updating the screen to update the progress bar. I've found that with our applications at work, that it is of more benefit with the less robust computers because they have less resources to begin with. I would suspect it'll be the same with this...

OK, I get it now. Knowing the resolution enables you to position the dialog box so the progress bar is off screen. I find it odd that the IfoEdit programmer is handling this problem thru the use of the INI to position it offscreen. Why doesn't he rewrite the progress bar so it doesn't constantly update? I'm a programmer and I had to change my progress bar class to take this into account.

are you talking about DVDStripper or Ifoedit Michelle?

the default position for the progress bar in Ifoedit is normally central but using a simple trick it can be positioned just off the screen to speed it up. We have no control over Ifodedit, we just use it for updating the IFO's so the user doesn't have to do it all manually. Maybe Derrow may change Ifoedit one day so that the process bar doesn't affect it's performance :)

we have also had versions pf DS that took away the blue bar which sped up the process but we found moving it was a better solution

I'm referring to Ifoedit. I assume Derrow knows about this problem and that's why there is an option in the INI for positioning the dialog. Of course, that solution is easier than rewriting the progress bar code. And if I was writing freeware I might be inclined to do it that way also.

It is like if u have changed and saved a MS Word document. You can undo b4 u saved; not after saved and exited. As a programmer u should know the importance of backup. So, a simple solution is to backup the temp folder right after ripping the DVD. No UNDO? No problem, just replace everything in 'temp' with 'temp_backup'. Clear everything in 'backup' and start over.

M&M (MackemX & the Mad Guy), do u guys think there should be an option for users to select if they want to backup the fresh rip inside the "Job Setup" group?
