What to do with Divx which is 352X288 but 29.970?

As the subject suggests!!...i've downloaded a divx 5.02 encoded video which strangly is in 352 x 288 but is running at the ntsc 29.970 fps!.

I'm converting this to ntsc vcd w/ tmp. While extracting the .wav in vdub i noted the fps and when in tmp the template was ntsc but the program stated the source as Pal.

So what will happen how shall i encode this? shall i just leave the settings as they are? with source set as pal and use the ntsc template?

i also note that divx file has a small black border all the way round the frames.

thxs ppl!!!!

would suggest you try both ways to see which works best.
Just choose to make a small portion (not the whole thing) *maybe 1 minute each or so.
Then load it with PAL settings first & then NTSC. Then pick the one that comes out best.
Either way, I see perhaps some sort of errors (either stretching picture or perhaps some frames skipped, but you might get lucky & have no probs with one of the settings).
This is a prime example of someone making a DivX improperly lol.
Anyhow, hope it works out (but I really think this will have to by a try as you go).

PS
perhaps if you do go NTSC, you can crop out the extra you don't need to make it 352x240.

Thxs for the reply m8!

i know what you mean..this is one schitzo divx lol!! :D

i'll try with the ntsc one first and see how it goes.

Always go by Frame Rate when converting, thats what determines if its NTSC or PAL and not its size. If the movie plays smoothly (not jerky) then the original source was also NTSC so choose NTSC. If the movie plays jerky then its possibly a PAL soucre but converted to NTSC frame rate and forgot to change pic size.

I've just got almost the same kind of problem. It's not a divx but a vcd mpg file. I downloaded it and it plays just fine with all my players. BS player shows a 352x288 23.976 file...
I tried to burn with Nero > VCD > NTSC. It checks the file and doesn't like it as a NTSC movie.
I used Mpeg tools in TmpgEnc > Demultiplex > multiplex (standard VCD) > Run > Nero > it doesn't like it again...
Well... I tried MpegEd (there : _http://wessweb.tripod.com/mpeged/index.html )
and I changed the frame rate from 23.976 to 25.000 > save. And guess what : Nero like it ! The saved file is exactly the same as the previous one, except the header, i think.
The only thing I don't like : the movie is not in the center of the TV screen. There is a black strip at the top and no strip at the bottom. But the movie is OK :)
