What is the best program to encode a dvd to divx

I use flaskmpeg usually,is there any better programs than that,because when im encoding with flaskmpeg im only getting about 15 frames per second,and i have a athlon xp2000 and i think i should be getting probley 30.i think.

something wrong with your PC. On my athlon XP 1800+ am getting 28fps (using flaskMPEG), though in answer to your question, we do have a tutorials section by the great ChickenMan.
Follow them (using vidomi) & there is your answer.

ofcourse quality is what we go for here (not always speed). Why settle for inferior quality when you can get the best?!¿

well i personally recommend the nandub method of ripping to divx, and using divx3.

you will find that all the expert groups use this method!!!!!!

and personally dont know about flask

A general comment of "all the expert groups use" is rather vague.
What groups?
Our own resident expert recommends vidomi.
And he really knows his stuff.
Like shadoe says, all Chickenmans tutorials are based on output quality and not speed.
If u know a way which gives superior results we would love to hear about it!

most of these so called experts that use nandub method aren't producing high quality divx's. In fact most on the net aren't.
I've used the nandub method a few times & it is alright actually, but the method is pretty difficult for many users. Especially getting bitrate right & such for length of movie/episodes & getting sound sync.
Vidomi will give you same if not better quality in a much simpler interface. Trust me on this.
FlaskMPEG is better when you want hard-coded subtitles (say for anime types) but is also sensitive & sometimes may cause voice-sync problems. Hard-coding I find is better than the new lame method of srv files or whatever for you to have subtitles seperate.
Just complicates things more for people. It is a nice choice for people who speak the native tongue of the movie & want to provide subtitles for other languages, but for anime titles I find it retarded.

I use SmartRipper 2.41 cd ripper and Vidomi to encode divX thanks to shadow_phantom and ChickenMan

Hey thanks shadoe_phantom,i went and used the tutorial from ChickenMan,(thanks ChickenMan) and that Vidomi program is awsome i encoded a startrek dvd in DivX 3 VBR (Two Pass),and i couldnt get over the quality,asually when i encode a dvd in divx 5 it doesnt look that good far from it,anyway what im wondering is how come divx 3 is better than the newest divx 5,because you think it would of got better and they went from divx 3 to divx 5,but most people recomend divx 3 whys that,one other thing is how do i get Vidomi to let me choose divx 5 in the video options.because ive got divx 5 installed and ive used it in flaskmpeg so i know its in the computer,but it doesnt come up in the Vidomi codecs list.

it should come up zoltar. The tutorial is for both v3 & v5 divX. They have the same steps only instead of using v3, you use v5.

zoltar, glad you liked Vidomi, your right it is a great dedicated MPEG2 to DivX solution.

Why DivX3 or DivX5, well DivX3 is really a hack (possibly illegal) of Microsofts MPEG4 codec while DivX5 is an attempt to make it "legal" by re-writing it from scratch but tyring to make it backward compatable. As after12 said above, the die-hard DivX coders still like DivX3 and the old software they have gotten use to. Most people dont like changes anyway. Doesnt mean that they are right or wrong either, one has to be open minded about ti all and find the best way for you.

well i am always open to any suggestion, and have never used vidomi, and yes i agree that the nandub method is tricky to newb's to say the least,

i think i will give this vidomi thing a try tho, seeing as so many good things said about it here

best tip is to just follow the tutorials created by ChickenMan after12.
Then if you have any issues, look for answers here or post a question.

Smart Ripper 2.41& Vidomi

Best program to encode DVD to DivX is Smart Ripper 2.41& Vidomi. I found by using DivX 4.12 I get superior video results. No need for 2 pass, just go DivX network vidomi (one pass) and slide the bar over to 100% video quality. Go 128 kbps but I'll warn you you'll probably end up with 2 cd's. but it's well worth it

i have to ask for some assistance here what program can be used to make the vob files into mpeg2 for videodrome then work with ! also to be clear i want only cut a ten minute segment of video off dvd then use vidomi to resize to divx???
