What is the best DVD Burner. I need to Back up my DVDs and PS2 games. I have a 4 yr old that likes to use them as skates and flying objects. I cant get rid of the kid. So I need to get something to back them up so I dont have to continuing to replace them. Any suggestions

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum ;) ..first of all i've moved this to a more appropriate sub forum, please try to keep your question in one sub forum as you'll get a better response ;) .....unfortunately i don't know enough about dvd burners so hopefully someone will step in and give you some suggestions ;)

Hmmm..tough question with many answers.Best bet is to look at the ratings at this list. The list is created, and rated by people who bought them. That said, the Pioneers,as well as Plextor 708A,Optorite8X,Liteon's,Sony,NEC,are the best IMHO. ;)

I've used a Liteon 401s, Nec 1100-A , and Digital Research Drives and by far, the best for burning movies IMO is Clearly the NEC brand. I just ordered the NEC 1300-A and should be in tomorrow.
The Digital Research burner was slow, but would copy to a dvd successfully, but the video playback on any of my DVD Home players was horrible, and would lock up.
The Liteon 401s drive works fine, but if I burn at 4x, then it is not recognizable on and wont even load on my Cheaper Apex brand DVD players. However, if i burn at 2.4x using the liteon drive, then it works perfect.
The NEC 1100-a drive i have i can burn at 4x and works perfect on all 6 of my home dvd players with no problems whatsoever. Ive never tried pioneer brand of DVD Writers, but from what I hear they are also pretty good.

As for copying Playstation games, if they are CD format, then I have burned a ton of them using Clone CD. However, if they are DVD format, then Record Now Max software works great for making backups.

Pioneer 106 with ritek media (will burn to most media @ 4x but I prefer ritek) Great plays in just about all standalones
Sony 500 same except very picky with cheap media

I second this opinion. I also have an NEC 1100a and it has been a pure joy. It was quite inexpensive and the bitsetting (book-type) can be changed to DVD-ROM.

Don't forget that the Plexy DVD drives are both modded NEC drives...
Sony has left the biz, as well as Ricoh, so we have just three players out there: Pioneer, Lite-On, NEC (and incidentally Hitachi/Lucky Goldstar, which trail a bit, as they seem inclined to support -RAM as well... great for data backupers, but useless for the rest). Any one of the choices has pluses and minuses.

I went for the Optorite DD0401, great drive. I burn at 4x +/-Rs & RWs and 8x(+Rs) they all play fine in my apex and pioneer. Also serjer I found your 107 in another forum. :D If you do a search in yahoo for the pioneer 107 you will find it to.

OK, I just got my NEC DVD+-R/RW 1300A drive and I couldn't be happier. I have burned movies on Imation DVD-R and turned out perfect. Also, tried Memorex, Verbatim, and FujiFilm +R media and all works flawless. I can't say enough about the NEC Brand.

I think I havent tried Verbatim yet, Ill try them on the PIONEER 106, Today and let you know 2morrow....

Cheers

Burner with a brain... (for those old enough to remember...)

Software: TMPGEnc DVD Author (which also burns DVDs, if you have Windows XP).
Hardware: Plextor 708-A DVD internal drive.
Picture/sound quality is unsurpassed.
