What DVD-Bruner you recomend?

Hi folks! Firstly I advertise: my english is the worst that you can find.

One year later I'm adressed to this forum searching recomendations for a cd-burner, and all people recomended me good. Now I'm interested in adquire a dvd-burner, and I'm between pionner 106 and BTC DRW 10040IM. The reasons are in Spain 106 are impossible of acquire, and a06 is 40€ more expensive. But in the shop said my if I want to buy this model.

What you recomend?

Very very thanks.

Try the Plextor PX-504A.Top perfomance and best software bundle (Plextools,Nero 5.5,PowerDVD XP 4.0 and Pinnacle Studio).Sheer quality..
(The new PX-708A has just been released ,so the PX-504A should be even cheaper and even better value now) :) :)

Alternatively ,and almost as good as the Plextor (similar design) (and much cheaper) is:
NEC ND-1100A (ND-1090).:) :)

Sorry, here´s the translation:

I don´t know how things are there in mother land (this is how Spain is called here in Mexico) but if you can get the Pioneer A05 it definetly must be cheaper and they are a wonder, cero recording problems and recorded disc are 99% compatible with stand alone players, even so if you only have the BTC and the Pioneer A06 option if I were you I would buy the A06 even with the aditional cost.

By the way from wich city are you from?

sony dru-510a

information for sony dru-510a. cost was just over £200. I had lots of problems getting the writer up and running with xp pro. seems the fix for me was installing adaptec aspi files to get the beast working correctly. software in use at the moment is recordnowDX from veritas but its not the best. a help txt file warns of xp problems with multisession writes over 4gig, and yes, you end up with a 'coaster' with only the first file available if you write more than 3.8+gig in a multisession mode. the software is 'shite' with regards to warning you of this. there is some info on microsoft's 'help' (sic) site regarding this problem, and is i read it they are looking at the problem?? there is a fix for 2000 users but i have not tried it with xp? any one tried? apart from the problems listed the hardware seems ok. rips will in most modes, not the fastest with cd-rs or w's but its ok. had some fun with celine dion ....? drive would not cope with a 'backup' copy but the 'black marker' on the outside track did the trick.. so to sum, drive is solid, software not so, and xp pro has probs without aspi updates. ciao

Quite odd- XP does not need anything but the SPTI native layer to mount Atapi devices. most likely it's due to a buggy busmaster driver.

Quite right probably, although I don't know any better than that.

If you could have a better look at the sony DVD which you got with the burner you could notice that the hotfix for that problem (which is caused by a bug in the Microsoft UDF reader driver) are included. The hotfix is included in Service Pack 4 for W2000, and will be included in XP SP2. If you can't find your Sony DVD, use the attached file... or if you have installed DLA you don't need the patch at all. same applies if you install any recent version of UDF reader driver by Roxio, Ahead, Veritas and so it goes.
And by the way DRU-500 and DRU-510a should have no problems with the Celine Dion album you mentioned (key2audio- just follow any protected audio tutorial and you'll find out that once your hardware is able to read the disk the rest are easy...), they probably refuse to copy it because of good gusto! :D

I have been using a Sony DRU500A since last christmas (firmware upgrade 1.0g) With absolutely no problems! writes at 4X flawlessly with good media - I use Ritek 4X DVD-R certified, or Verbatim DVD+R 4X
